The Majami' al-HadbReserve is one of the natural reserves in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, located approximately eighty km northeast of Ranyah Governorate in Makkah al-Mukarramah Province.
Supervision of Majami' al-Hadb Reserve
The National Center for Wildlife oversees the reserve, which spans an area of up to 2256.4 km². The protection is divided into two levels: the first involves the relocation of some wild species, while the second focuses on preserving the environment and trees.
Characteristics of Majami' al-Hadb Reserve
Majami' al-Hadb Reserve contains many weathered granite domes with pale colors, characterized by dark volcanic mountains and sandy desert plains. It has recorded forty-eight plant species, including large groups of vachellia tortilis, tamarisk, ziziphus spina-christi, maerua crassifolia, and moringa trees primarily. The National Center for Wildlife works within protected areas to restore biodiversity and preserve ecological balance. The protection in Majami' al-Hadb Reserve is divided into two levels: the first involves the relocation of some wild species, while the second focuses on environmental conservation and tree preservation.
Reorganizing protected areas
In pursuit of developing and reorganizing protected areas in the Kingdom to preserve their environmental and natural components, reintroduce wildlife, and enhance their developmental aspects, a Royal Decree was issued on June 1, 2018, establishing the Royal Reserves Council chaired by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz. The royal decree also included the formation of six royal reserves and their designation as follows: 'Rawdat Khuraim Reserve' and its adjacent areas, named Imam Abdulaziz Bin Mohammed Reserve; 'Mahazat as-Sayd Reserve', named Imam Saud Bin Abdulaziz Reserve; 'al-Taysiyah Reserve' and its adjacent areas, named Imam Turki Bin Abdullah Reserve; 'al-Tanahat and al-Khafs Reserves' and their adjacent areas, named King Abdulaziz Reserve; 'al-Khunfah, At-Tabiyq, and Hurrat al-Hurrah Reserves' and the areas between them and adjacent to them, named King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Reserve; as well as the area between the NEOM project, the Red Sea project and al-Ula, named Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Reserve.
The classification of Majami' al-Hadb within the protected areas
After the issuance of the Royal Decree establishing the Council for Royal Reserves and specifying their names, the Majami' al-Hadb Reserve remained among the other protected areas under the supervision of the National Center for Wildlife. These include the Uruq Bani Mu'arid Reserve, the Nufud al-Urayq Reserve, the Saja and Um al-Ramth Reserve, the Reeda Reserve, the Jebel Shada al-A'la Reserve, and the Wa'ool Reserve. Additionally, there are three marine reserves: the Farasan Islands Reserve, the Umm al-Qamari Islands Reserve, and al-Jubayl Marine Wildlife Sanctuary.
