
Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah Research and Studies Center is a charitable cultural endowment focused on the heritage of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah City. It was founded in 1997 by Prince Abdulmajeed Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to gather extensive information about al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, including manuscripts, documents, studies, photographs, maps, films, books, academic articles, and oral narratives. The center preserves and documents this information through appropriate methods, such as compiling encyclopedias, research, academic study programs, editing and publishing books and manuscripts scientifically, and organizing workshops to enrich the history and civilization of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. The center holds more than seventy thousand documents, approximately 149,000 manuscripts, and 353 scientific studies. It also owns a peer-reviewed journal and an online store for selling books.

The research field specializes in conducting studies and research on al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, compiling dictionaries and encyclopedias, scientifically editing manuscripts, and organizing scientific workshops to verify historical information on aspects related to the city’s history. The center also works in community service by providing verified information to universities, research centers, researchers, and all interested individuals, facilitating access to this information either through the center or via local and global internet networks.

Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah Research and Studies Center aims to contribute to the preparation of research and studies related to al-Madinah al-Munawwarah and make the outcomes accessible to all beneficiaries. It aspires to collaborate with experts, researchers, and local and global research and study centers. Additionally, it seeks to promote cultural knowledge about the history and civilization of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, build institutional capacity, develop the center’s human resources, and achieve financial sustainability.
Initiatives and projects of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah Research and Studies Center
The center has contributed to several initiatives, including the Architecture of the Prophet’s Mosque Exhibition, the Encyclopedia of the Architecture of the Prophet’s Mosque, the Oral History Documentation of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah (Their Narratives), and the Documentation of the Blessings of al-Madinah. Additionally, the center has supported various digital projects, such as the al-Madinah al-Munawwarah Oral History Project, the Encyclopedia of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah’s Landmarks, al-Madinah al-Munawwarah Book Project, oral documentation, the Digital Repository, and the Photo Endowment Initiative.
Seminars and conferences of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah Research and Studies Center
The center has participated in several local activities, including supervising the exhibitions (Madinah al-Munawwarah, Abode of Faith) and (Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah), participating in the seminar The Harrat and Mountains of al-Madinah: A Geological, Historical, and Geographical Study, and attending the Riyadh International Book Fair in 2021. It also participated in an academic course on the landmarks of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah organized by the Prince Salman Chair.
