Shubra Palace is located in the city of Taif, in the province of Makkah al-Mukarramah. Construction began in 1904, and it was completed within two years. It was named after its design, inspired by one of the palaces in Shubra District in Cairo, the Egyptian capital. It is known for its style, which combines a mixture of Islamic, Roman, and traditional Hijazi architecture. Furthermore, it encompasses around 150 rooms. It served as a summer residence for the government of the Kingdom during the reign of the Founder King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, before becoming the seat of the Ministry of Defense and Aviation (currently the Ministry of Defense).

The historical Shubra Palace consists of four floors and an additional basement. It features outdoor annexes and gardens. Its interior spaces were turned into museum galleries after the building was converted into a regional museum in 1995.

In 2017, Shubra Palace was included in the Saudi National Urban Heritage Register. The register is concerned with registering, protecting, and rehabilitating architectural heritage sites and documenting relevant information and studies.

The palace is characterized by Roman architectural ornaments inspired by the Hijazi environment and adapted thereto. It also features wood engraved on windows, shutters, al-rawashin, marble, and lime mortar covering columns and arches.
