The Saudi Water Authority is a government entity trusted to supervise the implementation of the strategic trends of the water sector, planning and managing water security, and organizing and developing the water supply chain in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Through its phased operational arm (Water Desalination), the authority operates the assets for the production of desalinated water until it is transferred to the Water Solutions Company, according to the Council of Ministers' decision. The authority's headquarters is located in Riyadh City, and the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture chairs its Board of Directors.
History of the Saudi Water Authority
In 1974, the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) was established by a Royal Decree as an independent government institution with a legal personality affiliated with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture. On May 7, 2024, the Council of Ministers approved the transformation of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation into an authority named the Saudi Water Authority.
