Samira Islam

Samira Ibrahim Islam is a Saudi pharmacologist, academician, and researcher. She assumed several positions, including the World Health Organization's Regional Advisor on the Essential Medicines Program.

Samira Islam assumed several positions throughout her career, including the position of faculty member at King Abdulaziz University, in Jeddah, from 1971 to 2003, the World Health Organization's Regional Advisor on the Essential Medicines Program from 1996 to 1998, and the former head of Medicine Monitoring and Measurement Unit at King Fahd Medical Research Center, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah.

Samira Islam is the first Saudi woman to receive a professorship in pharmacology. Her academic work at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah contributed to fostering scientific research and education in pharmacy. She also published around seventy-five scientific research, including thirty-two research in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She participated in the seventh National Dialogue, held in Qassim Province in 2008.

Samira Islam earned several accolades in recognition of her efforts in favor of science. The Arab Forum for Scientific Research and Sustainable Development, organized by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) awarded her the "Figure of the Forum" title in 2013, during its session held in Tunisia, on December 24, 2013, in recognition of her excellence and contribution to science, scientific research, and education.

She was also nominated, among thirty-three women worldwide, for the Women in Science Award, granted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
