The Labooni Art, or Labooniyat, is one of the traditional arts associated with al-Ahsa Governorate in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is attributed to its founder, the poet Mohammad Bin Laboon, and is based on singing Samriyat and Ghazaliyat (romantic verses).

Types of Labooni art

The Labooni art is divided into three types: Khamari Art, characterized by its captivating and mind-delighting singing; Samiri Art, associated with evening gatherings and moonlit nights; and Fajri Art, a melodious and rhythmic style performed to the beats of musical rhythms.

Performance of Labooni art

The performance of the Labooni art involves participants sitting in a circular formation, where the Naham—a person known for singing and chanting during diving trips—begins the singing. The seated participants then join in by repeating phrases like "Heya Wallah," accompanied by clapping and rhythmic sighs. Drums, tambourines, and Marawis are used to enhance the performance of this art form. Its styles include Fajri, Bahri, Haddadi, Adasani, Mukhawlafi, and Hassawi.
