Aseer Province Municipality

Aseer Province Municipality is one of the seventeen municipalities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, responsible for the urban development of Aseer Province to achieve sustainable tourism growth and preserve cultural and environmental heritage, leveraging it locally and regionally. Its responsibilities include providing municipal services to citizens and residents through innovative methods, and it is led by the Secretary of the Municipality.

Aseer Province Municipality is administratively affiliated with the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing and is headquartered in Abha City, located only 1.8 km from the province's seat. The municipality oversees thirty-three sub-municipalities, including Khamis Mushayt Municipality, Ahad Rufaydah Municipality, Bishah Municipality, Sarat Abidah Municipality, Dhahran al-Janub Municipality, Tathlith Municipality, Tanumah Municipality, and an-Namas Municipality.

The establishment of Aseer Province Municipality dates back to 1939, a year after the Capital Municipality and Municipalities Law was issued in 1938. It underwent several developments until 2005 when the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (now the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing) issued various decisions. These included naming provincial municipalities, linking municipalities and rural councils, and abolishing general directorates for municipal and rural affairs, based on the Law of Municipalities and Rural Areas issued in 1976. As a result, Abha Municipality was renamed Aseer Province Municipality, with all municipalities and rural councils in the province reporting to the Mayor of Aseer Province.

In 2021, the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced the approval of the formation of the founding council for Aseer Province Municipality Company, a subsidiary owned by Aseer Province Municipality. Its responsibilities include researching ideas, implementing and overseeing investment and development projects in tourism, entertainment, and municipal services, as well as creating diverse opportunities to attract businesspeople and investors.

Aseer Province Municipality undertakes several responsibilities within its jurisdiction, including paving roads and streets, implementing and maintaining gardens and parks, addressing swamps and water accumulation areas, executing and maintaining stormwater drainage projects on roads and streets, constructing public slaughterhouses, developing and maintaining public and designated markets, implementing and maintaining aesthetic monument projects, preparing and equipping waste disposal sites, distributing waste containers, overseeing the issuance of professional licenses, monitoring bakeries, factories, and shops to ensure the quality of their products, and maintaining cleanliness of streets, squares, parks, and public spaces, among other mandates.
