Yes, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia produces green hydrogen, which is a form of renewable energy utilized as a fuel source for transportation modes and power stations and as a green feedstock in various manufacturing industries.
The Kingdom hastened to produce green hydrogen through its global project for the future, NEOM. In 2020, it announced a partnership of USD5 billion to build a hydrogen production facility in NEOM, the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC).
NGHC is constructing the world's largest factory for green hydrogen production with a capacity of 1.2 million t annually by 2026. The produced green hydrogen will be utilized to fuel electric vehicles in NEOM. It will also be exported to meet the needs of global markets, such as Europe and Japan, as the company aims to revolutionize the global energy market.
On November 7, 2023, NGHC received the first shipment of wind turbines, which arrived at NEOM Port, located in Oxagon, the city of advanced and clean industries, to supply the green hydrogen plant with electricity through a direct power transmission network.
