What is the Difference Between a Tourist Visa and an Umrah Visa in Saudi Arabia?
There are various types of Saudi visas, each serving different purposes. The tourist visa is distinct from the Umrah visa issued by official entities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in several keyways:
- Visa application dates: The Kingdom accepts Umrah visa applications year-round for those wishing to perform Umrah, except during the Hajj season, which runs from the fifteenth of Dhu al-Qi'dah to the fifteenth of Dhu al-Hijjah. In contrast, there is no specific timeframe for submitting tourist visa applications.
- Visa cost: The Umrah visa incurs fees that are subsidized by the Saudi government, costing SAR2,000 for first-time pilgrims and Umrah performers. Meanwhile, obtaining a tourist visa requires a USD80 fee (which is refundable).
- Religious requirements: Muslim tourists with a tourist visa can perform Umrah rituals during their allowed stay, according to the specific visa type; however, this does not extend to Hajj.
