Midyan Field is a non-associated gas production field in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Aramco announced its discovery in 1992, west of Tabuk in the Kingdom, during exploration activities in the Red Sea Coastal Plain. The field's construction began in 2013, and production started in 2017.

Optimal production of Midyan Field

The discovery of Midyan Field enhanced Saudi Aramco's strategy in gas production, contributing to supporting the national economy and creating significant industrial opportunities to achieve the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

To develop the field and maximize its production, construction of the Midyan Gas Processing Plant began in 2013, aligning with the Green Duba Initiative. This initiative aims to limit the burning of crude and diesel oil for power generation by replacing it with gas, known for its efficiency, cleanliness, and low cost, as well as its environmental friendliness and lack of harmful emissions.

The Midyan Gas Processing Plant contributes to optimizing the economic return from the Midyan Field and was established following numerous studies in Tabuk Province. It is the first project of its kind implemented by the company in the northwestern region of the Kingdom.

Gas processing in Midyan Field

The plant project includes the construction of two ninety-eight km pipelines to deliver sales gas and hydrocarbon liquids to the power station near Duba, which produces 570 MW, including fifty MW from a high-efficiency solar thermal power plant, avoiding the burning of high-value diesel.

The Midyan Gas Processing Plant is designed to produce and process seventy-five million standard ft per day of gas and 4,500 bbl per day of liquid condensate, receiving it from seven surrounding wells. The plant delivers its products to the Green Duba Power Plant.

Supplying non-associated gas to Midyan Field

Studies conducted at the Midyan Gas Processing Plant have confirmed its support for future expansions in electricity generation and power distribution in the region, as well as for the potential development of regional industrial clusters.

The Midyan Gas Processing Plant is one of nine plants owned by Saudi Aramco that process bitter gas. These plants are al-Berri, Shedgum, Uthamaniyah, al-Hawiyah, Haradh, al-Khursaniayah, Wasit, Midyan, and al-Fadhili. The overall objective of these plants is to purify and sweeten the gas, then cool it to remove acid gases (hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide), water, and hydrocarbon condensates.

The Midyan Gas Processing Plant began production in 2017, supplying non-associated gas to the Saudi Electricity Company's (SEC) power plant in Duba, Tabuk Province in the Kingdom.
