What Is the Entity Responsible for Supporting Musicians in Saudi Arabia?
The Music Commission is the entity responsible for supporting musicians in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its duties also encompass talent discovery, development, and empowerment.
The commission was established in 2020 by a decision of the Council of Ministers. It works to develop the infrastructure of the musical culture in the Kingdom, and then to transform the music industry into a sector that contributes to the local economy through a series of regulations that create job opportunities for both genders. These include founding music education centers, leading live cultural performances, and organizing music recordings by supporting and promoting them. They also include reviving Saudi folklore and music, fostering its regional and global participation, and aligning it with the Kingdom's leadership position in the Arab and Islamic world.
One of the initiatives of the Music Commission is the establishment of a national music band comprising both genders to represent the Kingdom in global and regional music forums.
