The Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO) was established as a Saudi joint-stock company under Royal Decree No. M/11 dated February 5, 1979. The company's Articles of Association set its capital at SAR1 billion, which was increased to SAR1.25 billion in 2007.

Royal Decree No. (M/48) was issued on November 12, 1979, granting SAPTCO the concession contract for passenger transport by buses on the Kingdom's public road network within and between cities for fifteen Hijri years. This concession has been renewed and extended several times, with the latest renewal on October 12, 2015.

SAPTCO provides a range of services, including public transportation services on the road network within the major cities of Riyadh, Makkah al-Mukarramah, al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, Jeddah, Dammam Metropolitan Area, al-Qatif Governorate, Taif, and Jazan Metropolitan Area. This comes in addition to intercity transportation services via an extensive and regular network of routes connecting more than 350 cities and centers across various regions of the Kingdom through 650 daily trips, operated through thirteen stations and 157 agents. It also provides international transportation services to five neighboring countries (Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Yemen) through fourteen routes, operating eighteen daily trips. The distinctive service (VIP EXPRESS) provides direct, non-stop service with special amenities for passengers throughout the journey. It provides specialized services, through its fleet of vehicles tailored to its clients' preferences, including: Hajj and Umrah transportation services for pilgrims and visitors, employee transportation service, educational transportation service, intercity and international delivery service, tourist tours service, school and university trips service, as well as services for various associations and events, hourly or daily rental service, long and short-term service contracts for companies and establishments, limousine services, and comprehensive Umrah services (accommodation, transportation, meals, and tours). Also, digital services constitute one of SAPTCO's initiatives in smart mobility to align with Saudi Vision 2030 and provide digital transportation services in the Kingdom.

Strategic partnerships for the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO)

SAPTCO holds a range of strategic partnerships and companies. In 2010, it established a partnership with 'RATP Dev', one of the top five companies globally in managing and operating public transportation modes. This partnership led to the launch of two companies by SAPTCO and RATP Dev. The first is the Public Transport Company, a limited liability company owned by SAPTCO (80 percent) and RATP Dev (20 percent). It was established to implement the project contract for the supply, operation, management, and maintenance of the bus network in Riyadh City, as part of the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project in Riyadh City (metro-buses). The second is Capital Metro Company (CAMCO), a limited liability company owned by SAPTCO (20 percent) and RATP Dev (80 percent). It was established to operate and maintain the Riyadh Metro project for the first and second tracks of the six tracks of the Riyadh Metro project, which is under the supervision of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.

Also, the Saudi-Emirati Integrated Transport Company (SEITCO), established in 2014, aims to provide safe and reliable transportation services in the school transport sector. It is one of the leading educational transportation companies in the region, serving over five hundred schools in the Kingdom and transporting more than two hundred thousand students daily.
