Saudi Dates Platform is a digital government platform launched by the National Center for Palms and Dates in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on April 4, 2022. The platform serves as a marketing outlet for date traders who have obtained the Saudi Dates label and for their products and derivatives. It is also a store for selling dates and their products to consumers.
The Kingdom is working to become the world's largest exporter of dates, possessing more than four hundred types of dates, which represent 14 percent of the total global production. These dates reach more than 107 countries, supporting the diversification of income sources and positioning the Kingdom as a regional and global leader.
Objectives of Saudi Dates Platform
The Saudi Dates Platform aims to invest in the Kingdom's history and heritage spanning thousands of years by developing and encouraging the trade of dates, which are a local legacy in the Kingdom. Additionally, it aims to enhance digital transformation by digitizing markets and sectors and to achieve the Saudi Vision of diversifying the national economy.
The platform was launched through a media campaign on social media channels under the hashtag 'Watan al-Tumur' (Homeland of Dates). The campaign's slogan emphasizes that dates are a national product closely linked to the Kingdom's history, reflecting the linguistic meaning of 'homeland'—the place of something, its residence, and where it belongs and returns to. The campaign aims to highlight the Kingdom's historical significance in the dates sector and its current role in leading and digitizing the sector locally and globally. This is achieved by focusing on the first government e-commerce platform, 'Saudi Dates Platform'.
Function of the Saudi Dates Platform
The Saudi Dates Platform has innovatively created three technical portals: a marketing outlet that includes date traders who have obtained the Saudi Dates label and their products and derivatives; an online store for selling dates and their products directly to consumers; and a warehouse for storing traders' products and ensuring their delivery to the end consumer. The Kingdom is taking advanced steps to become the world's largest exporter of dates by making Saudi Dates products accessible to global consumers.
