Journey Through Time Masterplan is a program aimed at developing and restoring archaeological sites, as well as the natural and cultural oases within al-Ula Governorate. This program is overseen by the Royal Commission for AlUla and entails the development and restoration of five cultural centers by 2035. Its ultimate goal is to elevate al-Ula into a global cultural, heritage, and artistic destination.

The masterplan serves as a blueprint for attaining the objectives of Vision 2030. It seeks to provide support for economic growth and enhance investment opportunities, preserve the rich cultural and historical legacy of al-Ula on a global scale, and foster a harmonious coexistence between humankind and nature.

The Journey Through Time Masterplan project

The masterplan project consists of five centers: Al-Ula Old Town oasis, Dadan oasis, Jabal Ikma oasis, the Nabataean Horizon oasis, and Hegra historical city. The centers include museums, galleries, and several cultural facilities, as well as accommodation for visitors reflecting the cultural and natural identity of the region.

Cultural centers under the Journey Through Time Masterplan

The cultural centers under the Journey Through Time Masterplan are inspired by the natural surroundings and ever-evolving history. Al-Ula Old Town is a historical crossroads, interlinking the Old Town and the cultural oases. Dadan is the land of ancient kingdoms in the Arabian Peninsula. This oasis or center includes the Kingdoms Institute, which is an institute for discovery and knowledge. The oasis of Jabal Ikmah represents an open office for archaeological and historical drawings and inscriptions on the rocks of al-Ula, which embody ancient civilizations.

The Nabataean Horizon under the Journey Through Time Masterplan

The Nabataean Horizon is a section of the Journey Through Time Masterplan that features a variety of rock formations that stretch across the cultural and natural landscape. Hegra Historical City, which served as the Nabatean Kingdom's southern capital, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This center serves as a place of exploration to uncover the Nabataean civilization's artifacts.

The masterplan called for the construction of over five thousand hotel rooms and the development of 10 mn m of green and public space. The valley and its natural trails span approximately 20 km in length. Additionally, al-Ula tourist train route extends for about 46 km, while al-Ula area track covers approximately 9 km.
