"Shamsi Gate" is a national electronic portal that enables consumers to understand the economic feasibility of installing a solar energy system in their establishment and connecting it to the public grid. It features an electronic calculator that analyzes all financial and technical aspects to calculate the cost of installing a solar energy system.

Shamsi Gate was launched in 2021 by the Water and Electricity Regulatory Authority, following the completion of regulatory and technical arrangements with relevant entities to use solar energy systems in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Several entities participated in this initiative, led by the Ministry of Energy, including the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, the Ministry of Commerce, the Water and Electricity Regulatory Authority, King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, and the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization.

Shamsi Gate targets small solar energy systems, which are photovoltaic solar energy systems with a capacity not exceeding two MW. These systems are installed at various establishments and connected in parallel with the distribution system of the electricity service provider. An agreement template exists between the electricity service provider and the eligible consumer for installing small photovoltaic solar energy systems. This template specifies the terms and conditions, the application form, the approvals for net billing arrangements, and the connection of the small photovoltaic solar energy system to the distribution system.

Shamsi Gate objectives

"Shamsi" Gate aims to provide an easy-to-use electronic calculator for consumers, helping them analyze the financial and technical aspects of the estimated installation costs. It also offers several other auxiliary services. Additionally, it allows qualified consultants and contractors to conduct an economic feasibility study for installing a solar energy system at the consumer's facility, providing a detailed statement of estimated costs, projected revenues, and savings based on solar energy production and consumption rates, and the expected payback period for the installation costs.

Shamsi Gate services

"Shamsi Gate" serves everyone interested in installing solar systems across various consumption categories (residential, commercial, industrial, etc.). It offers three main services, the first of which is the "Solar Calculator." This service estimates solar energy production, allowing users to predict the expected generated energy from a specific area or the size of a particular device. It also provides users with detailed monthly energy production results following the installation of solar panels according to the specified technology. Additionally, it allows users to estimate the hourly energy production from the solar system throughout the year within a defined area. The second service is the "Financial Calculator," which estimates the construction cost and the savings on the electricity bill. It provides information on the expected energy production and consumption and calculates the energy savings, average cost, return, and monthly and annual savings. Additionally, it allows users to estimate the cost of installing the solar system, the savings on the electricity bill, the payback period, and the return on investment for the system. The third service is the "Contractors and Pricing Service," which connects consumers with certified contractors and determines prices by searching for specialized contractors for solar panel installation. It helps users easily reach certified contractors and consultants for small solar systems and allows them to send requests for quotes and compare them.
