Taakad App is a government electronic app designed to verify the validity of the quality mark in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and energy efficiency card labels for electrical products, such as air conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators, as well as tire and vehicle products. It was launched in 2016 and developed by the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization in partnership with the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center. The app operates on smart devices running iOS or Android.

Taakad App services

Taakad App is a consumer protection tool in the Kingdom that offers various services to enhance consumers' knowledge of products they intend to purchase. These include searching for products with quality marks, biodegradable plastic products, electrical appliances, vehicles and tires, water conservation products, and searching by chassis number for imported vehicles. It also covers gas-powered appliances and their accessories, and fire extinguishers, and allows for filing reports when product specifications do not match the energy efficiency label. Additionally, the app reviews and follows up on these reports.

The app provides several services, such as verifying information on energy efficiency labels for several appliances, tires, fuel economy labels for cars and lighting products. It helps identify the most energy-efficient products and allows for the comparison of products based on their energy-efficiency ratio to assist in making informed purchasing decisions.

Moreover, the app enables consumers to verify the validity of green label 'Taqyees' data on scales and check the validity and expiry date of labels by scanning barcodes and comparing information shown in the app with that on the label.

Taakad App action plans

Taakad App operates based on a mechanism that involves three steps: selecting the service to be implemented from the app interface, directing the phone’s camera towards the Quick Response (QR) code displayed on the energy efficiency label, and verifying that the information recorded on the label matches the information displayed in the app. If the QR code is unavailable, users can alternatively enter the product model number to retrieve its details.

Adding a report on Taakad App

When the product information does not match the details available in the app, the user can submit a report including the address data, product name, and manufacturer to the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization. Additionally, the Taakad App allows users to be redirected to the 'Commercial Violation' App, specifically designated for receiving reports falling within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Commerce.

Taakad App awards

Taakad App has won several awards, including the Gulf Customer Experience Award in 2018 in the categories of Best Use of Digital Government and Best Use of Mobile Apps, presented during the ceremony held by the User Experience Professionals Association (CXPA) in Dubai. It also received the Best Innovative Project Award and was recognized for its use of smart technologies to promote energy efficiency at the Arab Energy Efficiency Day Competition organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in 2021. In 2022, the app was listed as one of the top five digital services in the Kingdom for its innovation, receiving the Certificate of Excellence from the Digital Government Authority.
