Makken Initiative is a developmental educational initiative targeting Saudi Arabian university graduates enrolled in university programs related to e-learning to help them obtain at least one professional certificate. The initiative covers all university programs related to e-learning and educational technologies, including higher diplomas, bachelor's degrees, and postgraduate studies. This initiative is provided by the National eLearning Center (NeLC), which has signed agreements with Saudi universities for a period of three years to implement the initiative.

The universities participating in the Makken Initiative

As of December 6, 2022, NeLC signed a memorandum of understanding with King Saud University to become a partner in the Makken Initiative under the eLearning and Training Professional Certification Program. This marks the twelfth memorandum signed by the center with universities as part of the Makken Initiative. King Saud University joins the following universities in the initiative: Najran University, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Jeddah University, Hail University, King Khalid University, Qassim University, Jazan University, the University of Bisha, Northern Borders University, Jouf University, and Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University.

Objectives of Makken Initiative

Makken Initiative aims to highlight the importance of concerted efforts in the field of training and e-learning for graduates of academic programs in Saudi universities. It seeks to contribute to equipping graduates with [foundational-level] professional certificates issued by NeLC. The initiative also aims to enhance graduates' knowledge levels, elevate their capabilities and skills to improve performance levels in various organizations, and enhance the quality of services provided. Additionally, it aims to maximize confidence in e-learning practices and training, and prepare and empower graduates in the job market by developing their scientific and professional skills to align with the rapidly changing demands of the labor market. Moreover, the initiative increases investment opportunities in qualified human resources, focusing on exchanging experiences, expertise, and knowledge in e-learning with universities and relevant entities. It serves the educational process by adding skills and knowledge in e-learning for students and university staff, contributing to improving university outputs in alignment with modern educational objectives.
