The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is house to several endowments it preserves and develops. The most prominent of which are:
Well of Caliph Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, Endowment (Well of Rumah)
It is located northwest of the Prophet's Mosque in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. The great companion Uthman Bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, purchased the well of Rumah more than 1,400 years ago. The well remains today a source of water for the residents and visitors of the city. The well measures thirty-seven m in depth and has a diameter of four m. It is filled with up to twenty-nine m of water.
Ain Zubaydah Endowment
The endowment was established by Zubaydah Bint Ja'far Ibn al-Mansur, the wife of Caliph Harun al-Rashid, in 810, to address the problem of water shortage in Makkah al-Mukarramah. The historical paths of the ain (spring) extend over thirty km. During the reign of the Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, a special department was established under the name of Ain Zubaydah to supervise and restore the spring and its wells. The spring had a lifetime of more than 1,200 years.
Endowment of King Abdulaziz
The cornerstone of the project was laid in 2002. The endowment is located on Jabal al-Qala'a. It oversees the courtyards of the Grand Mosque. The disbursements of the endowment are used for the interests and services of the Grand Mosque.
Ain al-Azizia Endowment
Ain al-Azizia was established in Jeddah Governorate in 1947 under the directives of King Abdulaziz. He ordered the delivery of excess water from the spring of Wadi Fatimah and Wadi Khulais to Jeddah for these valleys to become a water source for Ain al-Azizia. The spring became the only water source for the residents of the governorate of Jeddah until 1969, when a desalination plant was established in Jeddah.
