Taif Municipality

Taif Municipality is the entity responsible for the urban development of Taif Governorate in Makkah Province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is concerned with coordinating with government entities to develop the structural plans of the governorate and its suburbs. Its responsibilities include providing municipal services to citizens and residents. It is one of seventeen regional municipalities distributed across the thirteen provinces of the Kingdom.

Taif Municipality is organizationally affiliated with the Ministry of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing. Its headquarters is located in Taif Governorate. It oversees nine sub-municipalities, including al-Hada Municipality, South Taif Municipality, North Taif Municipality, East Taif Municipality, West Taif Municipality, al-Shifa Municipality, al-Sayl al-Kabir Municipality, al-Sayl al-Saghir Municipality, and the New Taif Municipality. Taif Municipality is one of three municipalities in Makkah Province, alongside Holy Makkah Municipality and Jeddah Municipality.

On August 17, 2009, the Council of Ministers approved elevating the organizational level of Taif Governorate. The affiliations of the municipalities of al-Khurma, Ranyah, Turbah, al-Muwayh, and the rural clusters in Maysan and Bani Saad were transferred from Holy Makkah Municipality to Taif Municipality, and linking to it any future municipalities that arise within the administrative oversight of the governorate.

Taif Municipality carries out several tasks within its jurisdiction, including supervising the issuance of various professional licenses, paving roads and streets, executing and maintaining parks and recreational areas, addressing swamps and water accumulation points, implementing and maintaining flood drainage projects on roads and streets, implementing public slaughterhouses projects, executing and maintaining public markets and dedicated markets, implementing and maintaining aesthetic sculpture projects, monitoring bakeries, factories, and shops to verify the suitability of their products, and ensuring the cleanliness of streets, squares, parks, slaughterhouses, and public places.

On November 23, 2020, the Ministry of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing formed the Founding Council for the Taif Municipality Company to develop slums and elevate the quality of services in the governorate. The goal is to achieve sustainable development and enhance Taif's tourism and economic stature by creating opportunities, realizing optimal investment, and efficiently managing assets and properties.

Taif Municipality achieved the International Excellence Award for Social Responsibility and the Gold Excellence Medal in the Golden Palm category for Arab cities, held in June 2022 in UAE. Taif Municipality established the first council in Taif for social responsibility and the Taif Youth Council for both males and females, in addition to launching the al-Maha Initiative to establish a club for senior citizens.
