Hamza al-Muzaini

Hamza Qublan al-Muzaini (born in 1944) is a Saudi academic, linguist, writer, translator, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission.

He was born in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and was educated there until completing secondary school. He then joined Riyadh University's (currently known as King Saud University) literature college in the capital, Riyadh, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Arabic language in 1971. He later pursued his higher education in linguistics in the United States at the University of Texas at Austin, earning his master's degree in 1976 and then his Ph.D. in 1981.

He worked as a teaching assistant in the Department of Arabic Language at Riyadh University (King Saud University). Upon his return from the United States, he became a faculty member in the same department. During his tenure at the university, he held various academic and administrative positions until his retirement. After retiring, he dedicated himself to writing, authoring, and translation. He is a member of the scientific committee for the Award of Amin Madani for Research in the History of the Arabian Peninsula, and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission since 2020.

He is active in local and international conferences and has a presence in local journalism, ranging from linguistic analysis and criticism of works related to general linguistics to curriculum critique. He has translated a variety of articles and works from English to Arabic, most notably by the American linguist Noam Chomsky, such as "New Horizons in Language", "Language and Nature", and "Language and the Problems of Knowledge". He also translated David Gens's book "The Semantics of Form in Arabic Language in the Mirror of European Languages." Additionally, he has scholarly articles published in international journals.

He has published several books, both as a translator and an author. These include "Linguistic Reviews" in 2000, "Linguistic Instinct (How the Mind Creates Language)" as a translation in 2000, "Studies in the History of the Arabic Language" in 2000, "Globalization and Terrorism: America's War on the World" in 2003, and "Linguistic Bias and Other Issues" in 2004.

He was awarded the Ghazi al-Gosaibi Prize, literature branch, for his book "Wa-istaqarrat bihā al-nawā" (And the Seeds Settled in Her) in the autobiography genre in 2022.
