The history of the Saudi national flag dates back to the 'banner' carried by the Imams of the First Saudi State (1727-1818) and continued by the Second Saudi State (1824-1891). The specifications of the banner during these periods included:
Green, made of silk and wool.
In the middle, there is the phrase 'There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.'
It was held on a wooden pole or mast.
