What Is the Kingdom's Ranking in the Green Economy Index?
According to four indicators and four pillars, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has advanced in the Green Economy Index, issued by MIT Technology Review, which is affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This index, which began in 2021, evaluates the ability of seventy-six countries to develop a sustainable, low-emission future and measures their economic transition towards clean energy through investment in renewable energy, innovation, and green policies.
The Kingdom jumped ten places in the overall index, ranking first globally in the Renewable Energy Production Growth Index, twentieth globally and first in the Arab world in the Emissions Reduction Growth Index, and twenty-fifth globally and first in the Arab world in the Carbon Capture and Storage Readiness Index.
The Kingdom advanced twenty-seven places in the Carbon Emissions pillar, twelve places in the Energy Transitions pillar, and thirteen places in the Climate Policies pillar. It ranked twenty-sixth globally in the Green Society pillar.
