King Saud University Stadium is a multipurpose sports facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, dedicated to hosting sports fixtures and events. It is affiliated with King Saud University, which undertakes its supervision. The stadium was designed according to the latest international standards on a par with world-class football venues and is the first stadium in the capital Riyadh built without a track.
Establishment of King Saud University Stadium
The foundation was laid for the King Saud University Stadium by King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Its construction was completed during the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and it was inaugurated in 2015. The stadium is located in the capital Riyadh, specifically at the King Saud University Campus.
King Saud University Stadium has a capacity of approximately 25,000 seats. Thirty-four gates have been allocated for audience entry, along with five television and radio broadcasting areas, and seats and elevators for persons with special needs.
The sports stadium comprises a natural grass pitch and a running track, as well as partially shaded stands. It is the first stadium in Riyadh whose grass playing field is not enclosed within a running track, and the second in the Kingdom after King Abdullah International Stadium, allowing fans to watch matches and engage with them clearly and closely.
King Saud University Stadium facilities and amenities
The stadium has a number of facilities and amenities, including medical rooms, a warm-up lounge, a fitness gym, players’ rooms, referees' rooms, coaches’ rooms, a doping control room, a meeting room, a press conference room, TV broadcast rooms, praying areas, ticket booths, restaurants, as well as parking lots and outdoor plazas.
The sports stadium is usually reserved for football matches and is known to fans by several names, such as Muhit al-Ru'b (the Perimeter of Horror), "Mrsool Park" and "al-Awwal Park." It is also utilized for official ceremonies, sports and cultural competitions programs, and so on.
The stadium witnessed the first official events held on its turf in 2015, during the pledge of allegiance of the residents of the Riyadh province to King Salman Bin Abdulaziz.
In 2020, King Saud University signed a contract with Saudi al-Wasail Company to manage and invest in the sports stadium.
