List of the Kingdom’s Satellites
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is striving for leadership in the field of space by developing space technology and systems sector, as well as transferring and localizing technology in this vital sector. King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) began its activities in the space sector in 1985. It launched seventeen satellites between 2000 and 2021, under the supervision of Saudi scientists specialized in engineering, in collaboration with the Saudi Space Agency to further develop this sector. The satellites launched include:
The two satellites, ’SaudiSat 1A’ and ‘SaudiSat 1B’, were launched in 2000.
The 'SaudiSat 1C' satellite was launched in 2002.
The 'SaudiSat 2' satellite was launched in 2004.
The two satellites, 'SaudiComsat 1 and SaudiComsat 2', were launched in 2004.
The 'SaudiSat 3' satellite was launched in 2007.
Data transmission satellite system 'SaudiComsat 3-4-5-6-7', was launched in 2007.
The 'SaudiSat 4' satellite was launched in 2014.
’Chang'e 4’, a mission to explore the invisible side of the moon, was launched in 2018.
The two satellites, 'SaudiSat 5A' and 'SaudiSat 5B', were launched in 2018.
The Saudi communications satellite 'SGS1' was launched in 2019.
The ‘ShaheenSat’ satellite was launched in 2021.
