Port Ras al-Khair is one of the Saudi ports operated by the Saudi Ports Authority. It is located on the coast of the Arabian Gulf, within the industrial city of Ras al-Khair, in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It serves around one hundred industrial projects, covers an area of twenty-three km2, and is approximately eighty kilometers from Jubail Industrial City.

Capacity of Ras al-Khair Port

The capacity of Ras al-Khair Port is 35 million t, and it serves as a gateway for the export and import of the Kingdom's resources of phosphate fertilizers and aluminum. It mainly caters to the mining industries in Ras al-Khair in the Eastern Province and Wa'ad al-Shamal in the Northern Borders Region. Companies like Ma'aden Aluminum, Ma'aden Phosphate, and Ma'aden Wa'ad Al Shamal Phosphate benefit from the port's services.

Ras al-Khair Port facilities

The construction of the port began in 2008, and it became operational in February 2011. The port comprises fourteen berths with a combined length of 3,711 m and a depth ranging from fifteen to 16.2 m. It is equipped with the necessary equipment, tools, and devices to handle all types of general and bulk cargo.

The cargo volume on the port's berths in 2022 reached 8,691,506 t, an increase of 24 percent compared to 6,984,010 t in 2021. This marks the highest cargo handling rate since its official opening in 2016.

Record numbers achieved by Ras al-Khair Port

During 2022, the port achieved several record-breaking milestones, including the highest daily cargo handling the volume of approximately 91,386 t and the highest daily berth handling quantity of 22,707 t. Additionally, it served forty-seven marine vessels during December 2022. In December 2022, the Ras al-Khair Port achieved its highest monthly cargo handling volume in history, totaling 1,060,835 t.

The port serves more than one hundred industrial projects in Ras-al Khair city. The port provides shipping and unloading services, ship supply and guidance, towing and shipping services, installation and repair of navigational buoys, handling various cargoes, and maritime rescue and medical services. It is also involved in pollution control, monitoring, and hydrographic surveying. The port is also equipped with radar and maritime communication systems.

Furthermore, the port is well-equipped to quickly and efficiently respond to the fluctuations imposed by maritime transportation to and from the Kingdom. It boasts significant operational and logistical capabilities, including advanced equipment, tools, and devices for handling general and bulk cargo.
