King Khalid University was established in 1998. It began with the merger of the branches of King Saud University and Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud Islamic University in Aseer Province under the name King Khalid University. It was initially launched with the College of Medicine, the College of Education, and the College of Sharia and Fundamentals of Religion. Over the years, its branches expanded to include thirty colleges located across campuses covering the governorates of Aseer Province, namely:
