Aseer Province, located southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is home to numerous heritage and historical villages and towns across its governorates. Here is a list of five of them:
Rijal Heritage Village
It is located in Rijal Alma Governorate and consists of sixty buildings made of natural stone, mud, and wood. The palaces in the village consist of multiple floors and are known as fortresses. The village also contains a heritage museum.
Al-Muftaha Historical Village
It is located in the center of Abha City, dating back around 260 years. It contains a collection of closely connected houses along both internal and external pathways, built at the time using traditional methods, characterized by small openings and thick walls.
The Heritage Village in Dhahran al-Janoub
It includes the old commercial market located in the center of Dhahran al-Janoub Governorate, as well as the old neighborhood known as al-Hawzah Archaeological Village.
Al-Olayan Heritage Village
It is located in al-Sarh Center, north of al-Namas Governorate. The village contains artifacts and documents preserved by one of its residents. It features a museum built with stones and a roof made of juniper trees, consisting of three floors and housing more than three thousand artifacts.
Al-Akkas Village
It is one of the largest heritage villages in Aseer Province. It includes war fortresses and fifty clay buildings and houses, dating back approximately three hundred years. It is considered one of the oldest heritage villages in Aseer Province.
